Can you taste that? Victory! MHS4N6 found victory, despite setbacks, at the Desert Sun Invitational. The team rode their 1st bus unloading 25 competitors on Friday, Oct 15th at 7am! After a team pic, we circled up for warm-ups and bonding as a team before everyone went off to prepare for their first rounds. Though the day was long, everyone remained optimistic, returning to the cafeteria to get the updates from fellow teammates. Returning to MHS at 10pm, the team tried to grab as much sleep as they could before having to get up for PSAT's or returning to DV for Day 2 of competition. Success was found by many of our team members. Sona Shahbazian and Gina Mo were octo-finalists in PFD and Michael Ippolito and Eric Liang were quarter-finalists in PFD. Alexa Curran was a semi-finalist in Prose/Poetry. Enrique Sanchez took 6th place in Novice Original Oratory and Lin Wang took 3rd place in Novice Impromptu. To our shock as a team, we also received 3rd place in small school entry sweepstakes. Another first for MHS4N6!
As I entered NFL points, other big surprises of personal accomplishments came to light. Michael Ippolito earned his Degree of Excellence, Nicole Fisher, Anshula Prasad and Eric Liang earned their Degrees of Distinction, and Mrs. Alber earned her First Coach's Diamond!
Whoever said success is sweet is absolutely right! More importantly, we truly bonded as a team and so many NEW kids learned firsthand why Speech & Debate is the most amazing activity to be involved in.
On to bigger and better things at Dobson on Nov. 12th & 13th!
