Who Needs Fall Break?

Not the MHS4N6 team! Fall break is an anomaly to many Arizona speech & debate teams this week as they are preparing for the first big tournament of the year. The Desert Sun Invitational, held at Desert Vista High School, is quickly approaching on October 15-16. MHS's team has 26 students competing in debate, public speaking, and interpretative events.

To prepare for this tournament, students are sacrificing their fall break plans so they can converge for a team party on Monday night and then kick it into gear as they practice the rest of the week at school. These are some of the smartest, most dedicated kids who realize that the value of Speech & Debate supercedes the need to vacation out of town. This tournament is a Bid Tournament meaning students who make it to finals in individual events or public forum debate will have an opportunity to compete later in the year at the NIE Tournament of Champions. It is their drive for success that motivates our team to fulfilling their goal of becoming one of the few teams named as Sweepstakes Winners at the end of the tournament. What a fantastic way to start off the year. Best of luck to MHS Speech & Debate as well as to all other teams prepping for the Desert Sun Invitational.

So I leave you with our adopted motto of the year, ...don't hate, forensicate!
